Now we use EOS 67mm revserse adapter ring for example:

What Does a Macro Reverse Adapter Do?
A standard lens is optically designed for distant subjects. Reversing it inverts the optical path. The normally smaller rear element now faces the external subject, functioning similarly to a magnifying glass. This drastically reduces the minimum focusing distance, enabling 1:1 or greater magnification ratios for capturing extreme close-ups of tiny subjects.

How to Use a Macro Reverse Ring?
Preparation :
  • Ensure your lens has a 67mm front filter thread. Prepare your Canon EF-mount camera and the 67mm reverse ring
Installation:
  • a. Attach the EF or EF-S mount side of the ring to the camera body.

  • b. Screw the filter thread end of your lens (where you would normally attach a UV filter) into the 67mm thread of the ring. The rear lens element will now be fully exposed.

Shooting Settings:

  • Mode: Set your camera to Manual mode.

  • Focusing: Focus by moving the entire camera back and forth (a tripod and macro focusing rail are recommended).

  • Aperture Control:

    • If your lens has a physical aperture ring, use it.

    • If not, you must pre-set it: Mount the lens normally → Set the desired aperture (e.g., F8) → Press and hold the depth-of-field preview button → While holding it, detach the lens → The aperture blades will now be locked.

  • Exposure: Manually adjust shutter speed and ISO for correct exposure.

Here are the Pros and Cons for this Adapter

Pros:
  • Very low cost: The most economical way to experience high-magnification macro photography.
  • High magnification: Easily achieves 1:1 or greater ratio.
  • Potential sharpness: Can yield excellent center sharpness.
Cons:
  • Fully manual operation: No AF, auto aperture, or EXIF data.
  • Exposed element: The fragile rear lens element is exposed to dust, fingerprints, and damage.
  • Very short working distance: The lens almost touches the subject, making lighting difficult and scaring live subjects.
  • Extremely shallow depth of field: Requires precise focusing and focus stacking techniques.

Target Users & Recommendations

  • Recommended for: Photography enthusiasts on a budget who enjoy manual experimentation; users with a spare prime lens (e.g., 50mm F1.8) wanting to try macro; those shooting static subjects like still life, jewelry, or coins.
  • Not recommended for: Users seeking convenience and automation; those photographing easily disturbed subjects like insects; photographers concerned about lens safety or averse to manual processes.
  • Important Notes: Handle with extreme care in a clean environment. It is highly advisable to attach a clear filter to the exposed rear element. Prime lenses are the best choice for reversing.
This reverse ring is a powerful"creative tool"that opens the door to high-magnification macro photography at a very low cost, but requires acceptance of its fully manual and cumbersome nature. It is an excellent entry-point for learning macro principles
