Okay, let's talk video! If you're filming with a DV camera, camcorder, or even a mirrorless camera set up for video, you've probably run into this issue: you're outdoors, the sun is shining, and suddenly your beautiful footage has weird, hazy flashes or ghostly circles of light ruining the shot. Super frustrating, right?

That's where this unsung hero comes in: the DV Camera Lens Hood. It's that simple tube or petal-shaped attachment that screws onto the front of your lens. Think of it as a baseball cap for your camera—its main job is to block stray light from causing trouble.

"But what does it actually DO for us?"

  1. Kill the Flare & Glare (Your #1 Enemy): This is the biggest reason. When bright light hits your lens at an angle, it bounces around inside the lens elements, creating those distracting flares and washing out your colors. A hood blocks that extra light, giving you cleaner, more professional-looking contrast and color saturation in your video. It's like putting a shade over your lens.

  2. Essential Physical Protection: Video often means movement—you're walking, panning, or placing the camera in tight spaces. That exposed front lens glass is vulnerable. A hood acts as a bumper. If you bump into a wall or a tree branch grazes the camera, the hood takes the hit, not your expensive lens. It's cheap insurance.

  3. A More"Finished"Look: Let's be honest, it also makes your gear look more serious and put-together. It completes the setup.

And which one do I need? This seems complicated."

Not at all! It's probably the easiest accessory you'll ever buy. We've made it simple with our LL1200 series of DV Camera Lens Hoods.

The ONLY number you need to know is your lens's filter thread size. This is the measurement in millimeters (mm) of the screw threads on the very front of your camera lens. You can usually find it engraved on the lens rim or printed on the inside of your lens cap (look for the"Ø"symbol).

Here’s your matchmaking guide:

  • Got a lens with a Ø 30mm or 30.5mm thread? Grab the LL1204.

  • For a Ø 37mm thread? The LL1205 is your match.

  • For a Ø 46mm thread? You need the LL1206.

  • For a Ø 52mm thread? The LL1207 is the one.

  • For a Ø 58mm thread? Pick up the LL1208.

Heads-up for flexibility: Notice the LL1209? That's a special one. It fits both 37mm AND 72mm threads. This is perfect if you use adapters or have multiple lenses/cameras with those two specific sizes.

While photo lens hoods (like the flower-shaped ones) are crucial for image quality, for video, a hood is arguably even more important. Why? Because glare in a photo is one ruined shot; glare in your video can ruin a whole continuous scene.

It's a tiny investment for a massive upgrade in your production value and gear protection. Stop fighting with unwanted light and start filming with confidence.
